About YSIK

Vision of YSIK

As a Civil Society Resource Organization (CSRO), Yayasan Sosial Indonesia untuk Kemanusiaan (Indonesian Social Foundation on Humanity) or YSIK is taking roles in creating social/community order which is structurally more democratic, equal in social justice and gender, preserving the environment, respectful and enforcing the human right, so that the marginalized people could retain their strengths, space and resources of economy, politics and culture, that should be sufficient to realize the shared identity and goals in that social order.

YSIK
in a Glimpse

Established as a grant making institution in 1995, YSIK decides to be an open Indonesian CSRO and take role as an intermediary and a grant making organization. Instead of being program implementing organization, YSIK will become the bridge between those who have the commitment to give humanitarian aid and those who implement humanitarian activities and human right enforcement in Indonesia. YSIK collects aid either in term of finance and or services (networking and consultation support) from many parties who have the concern on humanitarian problems in Indonesia.

All the aid will be distributed to support various programs implemented by either individual activists or local NGO in Indonesia in order to process fair and justice social system. YSIK distributes its fund to the programs that support cultural, economical, and social-political rights. To be more specific, YSIK concerns on public issues such as Human Right, Gender, Environment, Economy and Culture.

All the YSIK’s efforts are aimed at rising up the rights of civil  society or marginalized community in terms of civil-politics, economics, socials, and cultural rights. Hence, YSIK appreciates aid from various parties who concern on Human Right enforcement, gender equality, democracy, and environment. YSIK will review carefully any proposals given by all the institutions and individuals based on the stated criterion and conditions.

MISSION

  1. To give bigger support to institutions who have strategic initiatives and empowerment of marginalized community in order to gain access and control upon the available resources (in politics, economics, socials, and culture)
  2. To encourage, as a grant making in the strategic areas, the establishment of capacity builders  for civil society.
  3. To provide support in stimulating initiatives and activities, particularly in reducing human right violation, violence, and gender mainstreaming.
  4. To mobilize and manage the existing resources of fund, either from international or domestic donors, society, and other institutions so that the management  is accountable, sustainable, and transparent.

STRATEGY

1.    Strengthening the Civil Society and Humanitarian.
YSIK prioritize strategy to encourage civil society strengthening, and humanitarian programs since big donor organizations tend to distribute their funds to those already stable organizations. Sometimes, they also distribute their funds in a very specific field such as environment preservation, and economical activities. Thus, small scale activities done by small organizations are very hard to get the fund even though many good initiatives and programs are done effectively.

2.    Fund Rising
YSIK may   initiate, encourage, support and set up the networking with any parties who are in line with YSIK’s values in doing fund rising.

3.    YSIK Internal Cappacity Building
As a grant making organization, YSIK is demanded to work more efficiently and effectively. In carrying out the function, YSIK needs to strengthen its internal capacity either in the field of governance, management, resources, or PME system.  Internal capacity building, indirectly is expected to support  the enhancement of  the marginalized civil society, since a strong and sustainable grant making organization will give good impact on raising, managing, and distributing the fund to the community-based organizations more effectively, appropriately to the target, and accountable.
